Why Hire an Interior Designer.

Often when people find out what I do they respond by saying ‘Oh that’s nice, so you shop for cushions?’ My ‘polite’ response is that Interior Designing goes much further than the ‘fluffy stuff’.

I believe everyone deserves to live in an amazing space which brings joy. The best designers will work very closely with you to fully understand your personality, and how you live, and then bring this into your home. Creating a unique space which you and your family will love.

An Interior Designer can offer an extensive range of services depending on what you need, and how much you have to spend. Services can start from drafting initial floorplans, designing kitchen layouts, optimising the flow of living space, maximising natural light, windows and views, how to sustainably heat a space, adding storage solutions, deciding where to position light fittings and electrical sockets - there is so much to think about when drawing plans. Then we will source the best local teams for the work whilst offering options for floorings, doors, windows, wall colours, etc. All the way through to the best furniture to fit the space - whether that’s clever bespoke furniture with additional storage, or unique restored items from local stores. We can also help solve problems within a home… if you are struggling to make a space work we are trained to think creatively and spatially - unlocking the true potential of a room, or house.

At Claire Collins Interiors we offer a Free of Charge consultation to help alleviate any fears you may have about working with an Interior Designer. And we are always available to discuss projects of any size.

If you’re still not convinced about the benefits of hiring an Interior Designer, here are some more scenarios where we can be of value…

  • Myth: We have a great builder who is helping us with everything. We don’t need an Interior Designer as well.

  • Fact: Builders and Interior Designers can work really well together. At CCI we work with builders who enjoy working with Interior Designers. We work together to find the best solution to our clients, and not just a quick fix. That’s because we value the finished product as much as you do. Together we will push the boundaries and suggest cost effective alternatives that can bring a ‘wow’ factor to make you love your new home. An Interior Designer can also act as a qualified liaison between you and your building team, at times of stress this can be very helpful. No more so than when you are an English speaker and your project is in France.

  • Myth: My budget is so small - I cannot afford an Interior Designer.

  • Fact: Far from being a luxury expense only within the reach of the super wealthy, Interior Design is often considered an essential investment. If you are renovating (or decorating) an Interior Designer can actually help you save money, and add value to your home. That is because the experience of an Interior Designer can help you avoid costly mistakes, and we will work with you to get the most from your budget.

  • Myth: I like shopping for homeware items - we don’t need an Interior Designer.

  • Fact: Often clients will get intimidated by the prospect of hiring an Interior Designer, and quickly decide they can do it alone. That’s great if you love every element of house renovations. However, if you are undertaking a renovation on top of your full-time work it is easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of choices and rapid decisions that need to be made within a limited timeframe. We can take the pressure off by helping advise and guide in critical situations. We also have local relationships and connections - so when it comes to decorating your home you can benefit from discounted prices and special pieces.

  • Myth: I’m selling my property - I don’t need an Interior Designer.

  • Fact: If you’re selling, or renting, your property, prospective buyers need to see themselves living in your home. ‘Staging’ your home can immediately help in these instances. Interior Designers will be able to style your property to suit buyers’ wants and needs, preparing your home for marketing photographs will increase your viewings, and reduce the time needed for marketing. This could ultimately elevate the sale (or rental) price of your property. More information coming on this subject in my next Blog feature.
